Yik Yak is very popular social media application (app) that is, for the most part, directed towards the college crowd, and can possibly get out of hand at some points.
Due to this specific app being anonymous, students may take things out of hand and post reckless things.
There could be so much as forms of sexting, people asking for sexual favors in general, etc.
An expert in kid's use of social media, Christine Greenhow, gave insight as to how the issue behind this could possibly be solved.
"We need better education efforts; we need to both research education that addresses in the classroom how to stay safe online and to think about your behavior on these online settings so it doesn't come back to haunt you. Teachers and students need to work together to make these things apparent because students aren't thinking about the future," Greenhow said.
Think before you post, Yik Yak users. You never know who may be documenting your every move.

The catch behind it though, however, is that it is completely anonymous.
Due to this, students think they can post whatever they want, perhaps in a reckless matter, and not have it traced back to them.
In cases like this, it is very easy for cyberbullying to become an issue.
A Michigan State student who uses Yik Yak, Kelsie Hopfauf, gave her input on the subject.
"I have seen several posts directly targeting a single person by explaining what they were wearing/doing followed by how the original poster thinks the person is 'ugly,' 'stupid,' 'ridiculous,' or something of that sort," Hopfauf said.
So when taking these factors into account, what could be done to help prevent possible issues that could come along with the app?

Once class is done for the day, everyone at Michigan State University knows that 5:00 p.m. means it's dinnertime.
MSU student Lindsay Baird had a long day of classes today and was counting on Landon Hall to have something yummy for dinner.
The first thing that caught her eye was Aztec chicken from the Bistro line.
Baird thought this looked like a good choice, so she decided to get it.
After she got her food, she found her best friend, Aftyn Williams, in the cafeteria and sat with her.
While Baird was eating, she realized that this chicken was not what she expected to be.
Williams suggested to Baird that she should go up to the cafeteria workers and complain.
Instead of doing this, however, Baird just decided to stick with something simple; some yogurt with granola.
Maybe Baird will have better luck with her dinner options next time.
